Purpose of Role:

To support on brand compliance for the Study UK campaign, ensuring application of the Study UK brand across all channels, content, events, and campaigns. Working collaboratively with the Senior Creative and Brand Manager, the Brand Manager will be responsible for engagement with the campaign brand, liasiing with key internal stakeholders and providing regular updates, and driving up standards and professionalism in branding across the campaign.

Role Context:

This role is part of the central Study UK team and has responsilbiity for shaping and delivering the Study UK campaign. Launched in current form in 2016, Study UK is the only national-level campaign that promotes the UK as a first-choice study destination all over the world. It is delivered by the British Council in partnership with the UK government’s GREAT Britain campaign, which encourages people to visit, invest, and study in the UK.

This is a global campaign with media concentration in key markets: China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and USA – plus strategic promotion in the EU region (France and Germany). As a strand of the GREAT campaign, Study UK must demonstrate ROI for the UK through international student recruitment, with capacity and economic potential boosted in key markets. The campaign must also deliver on a set of KPIs agreed with stakeholders in the central GREAT team.

The campaign, and this role, engages with a wide range of stakeholders: UK higher education sector; government stakeholders including UKVI; advisory groups; and representative bodies such as and UUKI and BUILA. To deliver the campaign, Study UK works with a wide range of creative agencies including: graphic designers; social media experts; content creators; film producers; advertising and photographers.

Study UK’s target audience is prospective students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and their influencers, such as parents, agents and counsellors. It combines a programme of centrally-delivered interventions including digital marketing, supported by country-level activity. The core programme includes: GREAT Scholarships campaign; Study UK Alumni Awards; suite of MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses); Study UK toolkits for British Council staff; UK government; education agents and school counsellors; and HEIs – helping to increase global campaign reach; a suite of global social media channels; a highprofile website and the Study UK blog.

Main Accountabilities:

British Council Brand Hub – first point of contact for Study UK assets on the Brand Hub

  • Upload and tag digital and print Study UK assets, adhering to upload and tagging standards set by the British Council Brand team.
  • Review digital and print campaign assets, archiving out of date assets and replacing with new versions where appropriate.
  • Create collections on the Brand Hub of specific campaign assets and share them with colleagues and external stakeholders to ensure maximum use and to maintain high brand standards.
  • Monitor downloads of the assets and report back to the team on uptake and usage.
  • Approve new accounts for Study UK external partners, sharing assets with them and troubleshooting any problems with the British Council Brand team.
  • Tag Study UK images with keywords to improve user experience, adhering to guidance on tags by the British Council Brand team
  • Work with the British Council Brand standards team to raise the profile of Study UK assets on the Brand Hub.
  • When required, edit the Study UK guidelines pages on the Brand Hub working with the Senior Brand and Creative Manager.

Brand support

  • Understand the Study UK guidelines and regularly review materials for brand compliance, providing advice and guidance to maintain standards.
  • Maintaining brand standards on the Study UK website – Making sure copy follows our tone of voice, house style and images used adhere to our photography style.
  • Managing the Study UK brand team’s mailbox, responding to brand enquiries and escalate as necessary to the Senior Brand and Creative Manager where appropriate.
  • Brief and commission standard creative for the Study UK campaign working with graphic designers and photographers.

Subject/Sector expertise

  • Experience of managing a brand across multiple markets and stakeholder groups.
  • Experience advising teams on branding that align with the campaign strategy.

Role specific knowledge and experience

Minimum/essential

  • Experience of managing a brand, delivering guidelines and providing advice and consultancy on application.
  • Experience of dealing effectively with a wide range of stakeholders in a matrix environment.
  • Experience of managing multiple projects to tight deadlines.
