Job title: Research Fellow in Geography – GIS, Data & Analytics – UK Military Veterans MONARCH study

Company: Northumbria University

Job description: Job Description:

ABOUT THE ROLE

Working as part of multi-disciplinary teams, you will support the Principal Investigator in delivery of research activity on the UK Veterans MONARCH Study (The Map Of Need Aggregation ResearCH study)

Applications are invited to join an established research team for a fixed term period of 18 months (with possibility of extension) in order to deliver a funded project aiming to develop a national-aggregated dataset of military charity service usage and to understand the effects of social structure on the health of the UK Veterans Population by mapping the complexity of needs. The successful applicant will work alongside an established team with veteran service usage data from the NHS and multiple third sector veteran organisations. The successful candidate will build on the excellent work undertaken by the team to explore the complexity of needs of the veterans’ population at the national level by creating an aggregated dataset to map the current situation and monitoring it over time.

Under the guidance of the principle investigator, the successful candidate will advise, develop and deliver the following outputs:

Collect relevant GIS-based data along with other data in order to facilitate collaboration, comparison, assessment and outreach.

Maintain GIS content to ensure datasets are current, accurate, and relevant.

Use geoprocessing tools, geocode services and spatial overlays to create, edit, and enrich both spatial and non-spatial datasets.

Research and implement opportunities to improve decision-making with mapping and GIS.

Edit, analyse, perform quality control, and create/maintain metadata on existing GIS datasets.

Prepare ad hoc analyses and mapping requests.

Engage with all project partners and stakeholders to collect relevant data.

Together with the team the successful candidate will help develop a pathway for data visualisation in a dynamic dashboard. The cumulative data, once analysed, will deliver up-to-date strategic information to the Office of Veterans Affairs, Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust. This is an excellent opportunity to work with and report directly to UK government to develop the veteran strategy through research.
