JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for the operational management and effective daily leadership and administration of the engineering team with the objectives of safely, efficiently, and effectively operating, maintaining, and modifying facility systems and equipment in a cost-effective manner. The Chief Engineer must ensure the highest level of professionalism, while meeting the clients needs, and a commitment to achieving the goal of 100% uptime within critical and noncritical facilities. Responsible for protecting and improving the value of the clients assets and ensuring that building engineering systems continue to perform their intended function.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee the maintenance and continuous operation of all building systems including: fire/life safety, mechanical (HVAC, plumbing, controls) electrical (lighting, UPS, PDU, generators, switchgear), cabling (data and voice, broad band), lighting and termperature controls systems, critical environments, light construction (painting, doors, relites, locks), digital systems (fire alarm, duress, card access, radionics, CCTV), and Audio/Visual services. Utilize staff and contracting with outside vendors as necessary.
  • Develops, reviews, and approves Maintenance Critical Environment Work Authorizations (CEWAs) for assigned facilities and systems. Reviews and concurs with Construction CEWAs for assigned systems.
  • Supervise and manage engineers and maintenance staff including hiring, training and personal development
  • Identify the maintenance objectives of the facility and incorporate those objectives into a documented plan that includes preventive, predictive and reactive maintenance procedures.
  • Identify safety hazards within the building and incorporate the remediation of such hazards to ensure that the building’s staff and occupants work in a safe environment. Implement, administer, and manage safety training program.
  • Ensure that compliance of all regulatory laws and guidelines are met as they relate to the operation of the building’s infrastructure. Responsible for alerting management of building discrepancies.
  • Assist in the development of a Capital plan which would include planning for infra-structure upgrades, equipment replacements and building modifications to ensure the building’s future capabilities are maintained.
  • Responsible for providing technical input and support to facility projects and modifications, including construction support, commissioning, and final acceptance, as applicable.
  • Maintain all infrastructure and compliance documentation for the building including up-to-date building drawings and single-lines as well as documentation mandated for the purpose of maintaining regulatory compliance with Federal, State or Local law.
  • Responsible for overseeing the activities of contractors working within the building either as representatives of the building itself or tenants operating within the buildings.
  • Responsible for keeping records of buildings rounds and readings, all engineering logs and engineering data sheets.
  • Responsible for advance training and notification to all contractors so that they are informed and knowledgeable with respects to the building’s critical functions and the work they are to perform, including a incident contact response list.
  • Ensure that the CEWA (Critical Facility Work Authorization) is a well-understood process among the building staff, engineers, tenants and contractors who perform work on the building’s critical infrastructure.
  • Ensure strict adherence to Bank of America’s Critical Awareness Process, Technical Bulletins, established engineering guidelines, processes, and procedures.
  • Limited travel is required in this position.
  • Performs additional job duties as requested.

Desired Skills and Experience

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent with two years of trade schooling in electrical system design, refrigeration and/or HVAC.
  • 10+ years experience in data center operations, maintenance, and engineering supporting critical facilities operations.
  • Strong working technical knowledge and understanding of critical data center systems, including HVAC, Standby emergency power, uninterruptible power supplies, and associated infrastructure
  • Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of options in varying situations.
  • Ability to effectively respond to sensitive issues, complex inquiries or complaints from clients, co-workers, supervisor, and/or management.
  • Applicable license /permit for trade as required (e.g. Journeyman or Master/Electrician, City/State License.)
  • Proficient in basic computer applications and software such as MS Office.

DESIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES

  • Experience with CMMS and BAC preferred.
  • Strong understanding, commitment and proven implementation experience in OSHA safety programs and processes.
  • Prior experience in development of critical environment programs and procedures.
  • Operating Engineers license (SMA) or equivalent preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Employee will be required to frequently bend, squat, climb stairs and ladders, stand and walk and occasionally crawl and climb.
  • Employee is required to handle objects (manual dexterity), push and pull, reach above shoulder level and have fine finger movements. The employee must be able to carry/lift loads of up to 50 lbs.
